In an interview on Radio Roma Capitale Angelo Alabiso, SOC Cyber Security Analyst at Innovery, highlighted the importance and necessity of including new figures with psychological, sociological, and criminological backgrounds in defence teams, able to detect in advance information about cyber threats, to counter those phishing, persuasion, cognitive bias techniques, now increasingly frequent, that aim to cheat the perception of individuals, and target their emotional state.
It is increasingly evident that a multidisciplinary approach within cyber security is essential. It has been realised over time how attackers not only exploit vulnerabilities from a technological point of view, but also from a psychological one, attacking human vulnerabilities, often targeting a lack of
attention, particular emotional states or a lack of awareness. It is Therefore important to give value to the psychological field within Cyber Security, because it can help not only in countering phishing mails, but also in profiling an attacker or for instance in promoting emotional intelligence or critical sensibility.
The main actors one has to defend against are always in the flesh human beings of various types such as: activists who do this for ideological or political purposes, social engineers who use the social sciences to manipulate or cheat people, script kiddies, criminal groups, but also insider threats.
